“Basic” Greek Education in the Sanjak of Gjirokastër, 1869-1913.
“Temel” Yunan Eğitimi: Yanya Sancağı’nda (Gjirokastër) 1869–1913.
Bu makale, geç Osmanlı döneminde (1869–1913) Gjirokastër Sancağı’nda yürütülen Yunanca eğitimin örgütlenmesini ve gelişimini incelemekte, çok etnili bir imparatorluk bağlamında ulusal bilinç ve kültürel sürekliliği vurgulamaktadır. Yayınlanmamış arşiv belgeleri, konsolosluk yazışmaları, eğitim dernekleri tutanakları ve patrikhane belgeleri temel alınarak, eğitim sürecine dahil olan aktörler ağı yeniden oluşturulmuştur; bu ağ Ekümenik Patrikhane ve yerel metropolitliklerden laik derneklere, hayırseverlere ve Yunan konsolosluğuna kadar uzanmaktadır. Bu aktörler hem iş birliği hem de rekabet içinde hareket ederek Osmanlı makamlarıyla müzakere ederken, Ortodoks Hristiyan nüfus arasında Yunan kimliğini teşvik etmişlerdir. SDEG ve İstanbul Epir Eğitim Derneği gibi kuruluşlar okulları, bursları ve öğretmen yetiştirmeyi finanse etmiş; Zografeion Öğretmen Okulları ise nitelikli eğitimcilerin yetiştirilmesi ve kültürel değerlerin yaygınlaştırılmasında önemli bir dönüm noktası olmuştur. Mali yetersizlikler, sınırlı altyapı ve Osmanlı müdahaleleri, iddialı müfredatın uygulanmasını sınırlandırmıştır. Eğitim, ideolojik bir mücadele ve toplumsal seferberlik alanına dönüşmüş, ders kitapları, ulusal ve dinsel kutlamalar ile kilise etkinlikleri kültürel belleği güçlendirmiştir. Çalışma, Gjirokastër’deki Yunan eğitiminin Helenizmin ruhsal ve siyasal bir kalesi işlevi gördüğünü göstermektedir.
